On 15 June, the special screening of “Dear You” was successfully held at TGV Cinemas Suria KLCC. The event was jointly organized by the China Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, and co-organized by Mega Films Distribution Sdn Bhd.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were H.E. Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia, and Madam Song Xiaomei; YB Chiew Choon Man, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia; Dato’ Abdul Majit bin Ahmad Khan, President of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association; Madam Han Ning, Director of the China Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur; Mr. Samuel Lee Thai Hung, Deputy Director General (Promotion II) of Tourism Malaysia; and Madam Chang Shan, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia. Nearly 180 guests from various sectors of Malaysian association attended the event.

Ambassador Ouyang noted that Qiaopi (overseas Chinese remittance letters), inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, are an important historical testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and deep homeland ties of overseas Chinese communities, as well as to the longstanding friendship between China and Malaysia. He said that Dear You vividly portrays the emotional bond between overseas Chinese and their ancestral homeland through the lens of Qiaopi culture.

YB Chiew Choon Man highlighted that cultural and tourism exchanges continue to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of Malaysia and China, providing lasting support for bilateral relations.

The event also featured a “Tour Guangdong Following Movies” inbound tourism promotion initiative, showcasing Guangdong’s rich cultural and tourism resources through the film’s distinctive Chaoshan cultural setting. The touching story and authentic portrayal of Qiaopi culture resonated strongly with audiences and further deepened appreciation of the shared cultural connections between Malaysia and China.

As part of the China Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur’s programmes supporting the United Nations’ International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations initiative, the event used film as a bridge to promote cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
