(4) Opera -Dingjun Mountain

“Dingjun mountain” is the first film made by the Chinese themselves. The plot of the film is taken from the classic Peking opera “Dingjun mountain”, telling the story of veteran Huang Zhong who bravely captured Dingjun mountain after defeating Zhang Ying who was stationed in Tiandang mountain in “The Romance of the Three Kingdoms”. The film was shown by the famous Peking opera performing artist Tan Xinpei in front of the camera with some of his best clips. The film was then shown in the crowds in the Daguanlou of Qianmen, and was very popular. Tan school of Peking Opera is a direct descendant of six generations. Including Tan Zhidao, Tan Xinpei’s father, there are seven generations engaged in Peking Opera, which is rare in both the history of world drama and the history of Peking Opera. This time, we not only tell the old but strengthful story of Peking Opera “Dingjun mountain”, but also change the narrative techniques and methods, telling the Tan-style of Peking Opera to modern audiences and youth groups, and excavating the inheritance stories behind the opera culture, so as to impress the audiences and realize the communication value and cultural value of broad significance.

The program adopts the form of plot interpretation, starting with the inheritance stories of Tan Xiaozeng and Tan Zhengyan, the sixth and seventh generations of Tan-style successor of Modern Peking Opera. The editing techniques flash back to the stories of Tan Xinpei and Tan Xiaopei in the late Qing Dynasty, focusing on father and son, inheritance and persistence, and seamlessly connecting from the plot content to the selected Peking Opera section “Dingjun mountain”.
