《The Yangtze River 》

《The Yangtze River 》is China’s first 4K documentary which is focus on the Yangtze River. It is a national support project of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, and it is made as a tribute for the 70th anniversary of China. The documentary gives a great account of the social changes and green transformation along the Yangtze River in an international narrative way. The Yangtze is the third longest river in the world and also China’s mother river. It nourishes some 40% of China’s population while its basin is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, being home to rare species such as giant pandas, porpoises and snow leopards for tens of thousands of years. However, excessive exploitation of natural resources once seriously threatened the environment of its reaches. The documentary, “The Yangtze River”, examines the mighty river from the perspective of environmental protection, celebrating the commitments and efforts China has made pitted against the backdrop of global concern over the issue. China’s accomplishment can rightly serve as a role model for the governance of major rivers worldwide.

The documentary features an exciting roster of interviewees and myriads of details, depicting with flair the emotional bond of people in different regions with the awesome river. In addition, the crew has approached nearly a hundred experts and scholars in the fields of hydrology, water conservancy, geography, climate, flora and fauna, history, economy, and humanities, including more than a dozen members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
